“Sometimes, party loyalty asks too much,” county Recorder of Deeds Evie Rafalko McNulty told cheering supporters Monday, quoting President John F. Kennedy as she formally kicked off her campaign for Lackawanna County commissioner.
After twice opting out of the race, Mrs. McNulty’s announcement came three weeks after her party chose insurance agent Chris Clauss, of Jessup, to run with incumbent Commissioner Mike Washo. On Feb. 16, she told The Times-Tribune that she was “truly hurt” by her party’s rejection, but would remain a loyal Democrat. Since then, she said, she’s been encouraged, “mostly from Democrats,” to run.
